Composer and choral conductor TEEMU TOMMOLA
Teemu Tommola has a MMus degree from Sibelius Academy, having studied choir conducting with Matti Hyökki, Timo Nuoranne and Jani Sivén, and composing with Tapani Länsiö and Tapio Nevanlinna. His works have been performed by many excellent choirs such as Akademiska Damkören Lyran, Akademiska Sångföreningen, EMO Ensemble, Kampin Laulu, and Musica-kuoro.
”As a conductor, I am particularly interested in Renaissance and Baroque; as a listener, I am equally fond of modern orchestral music. In my compositions, I keep searching for a link between, or an area outside of, the free-tonal, texturally simple mainstream of choral music and the modernist approaches often too demanding for non-professional singers. I work slowly, struggling with questions on language, mathematics, human intimacy and a sense of infinity.”
